What makes a CV work in 2026

Most applications now pass through an applicant tracking system before a person sees them. These systems parse your document into structured fields, and they parse conventional layouts far more reliably than creative ones: standard section headings such as Experience, Education, and Skills; a single-column layout; real text rather than text inside images; and no critical information hidden in headers, footers, or text boxes.

Beyond parsing, the content conventions are consistent across markets. Reverse-chronological order. Achievements with concrete numbers rather than lists of duties. One page for early-career candidates, two at most for anyone else. Tailoring the wording to the vacancy, because both the software and the recruiter are matching against the language of the advertisement.

Why we built this tool

Writing a CV is a task everyone faces and almost nobody enjoys, and the formatting alone consumes an evening.

A CV is also a dense collection of personal data: your full name, address, phone number, email, employment history, and education. Uploading it to a resume site means depositing all of that with a company whose business is frequently selling access to candidate databases and reselling your details to recruiters. Ours builds the document in your browser and exports it from there. Nothing is uploaded, no account is created, no one is emailed, and your details are not added to anyone's database — including ours, which does not exist.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Keep the layout single-column and the headings conventional so applicant tracking systems parse it correctly.
  • Write achievements with numbers rather than lists of responsibilities.
  • Tailor the wording to each advertisement; both the software and the recruiter match on language.
  • One page early in a career, two at most later — and never put contact details only in the header.

Quick start: using Resume Generator

  1. Fill in your details section by section in the form above.
  2. Write each role's bullets as achievements with numbers, not as a list of responsibilities.
  3. Keep the section headings conventional so parsers read them correctly.
  4. Preview the layout and check it stays within one or two pages.
  5. Export the document and tailor a copy for each application.

Proofread with Basic Grammar Checker, and use Compress PDF if a portal imposes a file-size limit.
